How to hide the LinkedIn feed

You open LinkedIn to answer a message or check a job, and twenty minutes later you are reading a stranger's thoughts on leadership. There is no off switch for the feed. These three methods give you one.

Why there is no simple switch

LinkedIn's homepage is the feed, and every route back to the site lands you on it. You can unfollow people one by one or sort by recent, but the feed itself is not optional in LinkedIn's settings.

1. The built-in option: unfollow and "Manage my feed" free, limited

Under the feed's settings you can unfollow connections without disconnecting, mute topics, and sort by recent instead of top. Done consistently, the feed gets quieter.

It never gets empty though. LinkedIn backfills with suggested posts and "people you may know", and the layout stays exactly as attention-grabbing as before.

2. Replace the feed with an extension free, all or nothing

News Feed Eradicator, a free extension originally built for Facebook, also supports LinkedIn: it swaps the feed for a single motivational quote. uBlock Origin's element picker can hide the feed container too.

Effective and simple. The trade-off is that the feed is gone entirely, so when a colleague says "did you see my post", you have to disable the extension to look.

3. Blur the feed, keep everything else gentler

Softspot's LinkedIn preset blurs the main feed and the LinkedIn News sidebar. Messaging, notifications, your network, job search, and profiles all work as normal because nothing on the page is removed.

When you do want to see a post, hover the feed and hold the peek button for a moment. It reveals for ten seconds and then gently blurs again.

Nothing about this is visible to LinkedIn or your connections. It happens entirely inside your browser.

How to set it up

  1. 1Install Softspot from the Chrome Web Store. It is free on two sites, and it asks for no site access until you blur something.
  2. 2Open the site, click the Softspot icon in your toolbar, and press + Blur next to Main feed and LinkedIn News sidebar.
  3. 3Done. It stays blurred on every visit. To blur anything else on the page, press Alt+B and click it.

Which should you pick?

Built-in options if you want a lighter feed and do not mind it creeping back.
A removal extension if you never want to see it again and are fine with it being gone for good.
Softspot if you want it out of your face but still there when you genuinely need it, with the rest of the site working normally.

Questions people ask

Will my connections or LinkedIn know I did this?

No. Softspot runs only in your browser, has no server and no account, and never touches your LinkedIn account. It changes what you see, not what exists.

Does it work in the LinkedIn mobile app?

No. Extensions run in desktop Chrome and Edge only. On mobile, the unfollow and mute tools are what LinkedIn offers.
